Hello, good evening! I’m making public my Christmas and New Year’s Eve gift to my very good friend Caetano Rodrigues. Loronix would not be the same without Caetano’s music and advice given on continuous basis to us. Caetano is also a very special human being and this album is something impossible to find, featuring one of the artists that he like most, although we do not have much information on his real identity. The first thing I will make after press the submit button and release this post is to reach Caetano Rodrigues, I’m sure he will be excited and walking on circles for several minutes.
Let’s see.

This is Bil Bell Quarteto – Sua Majestade o Sax (no date), for Damic, featuring jazzy renditions of international standards lead by a quartet with not credited musicians. bossanovadreamer has a hint about Bil Bell, he said on our last Bil Bell release that Hector Costita is his best guess. Is there anybody here who knows the real artist behind Bil Bell? This answer would make Caetano Rodrigues extremely pleased.

Tracks include:

01 – I’m Getting Sentimental Over You
02 – Autumn Leaves
03 – Rose
04 – The Man I Love
05 – Temptation
06 – Body and Soul
07 – Indian Summer
08 – Summertime in Venice
09 – Laura
10 – Poinciana
11 – I’m in the Mood for Love
12 – A Woman in Love

Varios Artistas – Baião Nr. 3 (1953)

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 30 de dezembro 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

Hello, good evening! Let’s start this Saturday visiting another album from a very nice and old Musidisc sequel dedicated to a genre that dominated Brazilian popular music in the 40′s and 50′s, the Baiao.

We made available a couple of months ago
Baiao Nr. 2, and now it is time to show Baiao Nr. 3, much better than the second one.
Let’s see.

This is Baiao Nr. 3 (1953), for Musidisc, featuring the Brazilian pianist Leal Brito, later known as Britinho, and several special guests, such as the vocal group Tres Marias, Nilo Sergio, Manezinho Araujo and Catulo de Paula. The repertoire features sixteen Baiao tunes, with instrumental tracks by Leal Brito and lyrics when a special guest makes an appearance. I like Baiao and Leal Brito instrumental tracks really worth checking out.

Tracks include:

The Performers

Leal Brito e Orquestra
(all tracks)

Tres Marias

Manezinho Araujo
Catulo de Paula

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 29 de dezembro 2007.

Hello, good evening! I think cvllos and every Dick Farney enthusiast will be amazed to see another sought after 10-inch album from the early years. I’m amazed with my luck to get the second one in less than two weeks. I’ve been searching with cvllos the five Dick Farney first 10-inch LPs for many months. So far, this is the oldest available at Loronix, released in 1954, I’m sure with the help of our community the remaining ones should come very soon.
Let’s see.

This is Dick Farney – Dick Farney e Seu Quinteto (1954), for Continental, with Dick Farney approaching the Choro genre on Side A and Jazz (described as Fox-Trot by Continental) on Side B. Baden Powell – Nosso Baden (1980) featuring Os Originais do Samba

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 29 de dezembro 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

cvllos said bellow that I’m a tireless vinyl searcher, however, when I check my hunting list, I think it has more albums on search than the ones available at Loronix. Some albums on my hunting list I already have, but they stay listed waiting for a better cover, better media and even to replace a missing piece.

This one is the last example and I gave up on searching for another copy. I will tell you what is missing on it.
Let’s see.

This is Baden Powell – Nosso Baden (1980), for Atlantic. I like this album, Baden Powell guitar has only the accompaniment of Os Originais do Samba rhythm section, there is no bass, drums or any other electric instrument.

It is a late acoustic album, a very common concept today. Baden Powell sings with his small and beautiful voice of his late years and Os Originais do Samba give some vocal support in some tracks.

This album was never released on CD and came with a single featuring Baden Powell performing an instrumental song A Estrela e a Cruz. The single was part of a contest, and the idea was to give a chance to everybody to be Baden Powell partner on A Estrala e a Cruz.

There was a form inside the album to be fulfilled with your lyrics to the song A Estrela e A Cruz. Unfortunately, I don’t have this single and this is the missing piece of this post. I thought we could make the contest again using this single.

I urge Loronixers to track this single down, so we can try to organize this contest 28 years after the first one.

Tracks include:

Personnel

Baden Powell
(violao, voice)

Os Originais do Samba
(percussion, voice)

Track List

01 – Mesa Redonda (Baden Powell / Paulo César Pinheiro)
02 – Jongo (João Pernambuco)
03 – Até Eu (Baden Powell / Paulo César Pinheiro)
04 – Cai Dentro (Baden Powell / Paulo César Pinheiro)
05 – Odeon (Ernesto Nazareth)
06 – Queixa (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
07 – Abismo de Rosas (Américo Jacomino “Canhoto”)
08 – Ingênuo (Pixinguinha / Baden Powell)
09 – Canção das Flores (Baden Powell / Paulo César Pinheiro)

Pedro Paulo Castro Neves & Michel Legrand – Pedro Paulo Castro Neves & Michel Legrand (1985)

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 26 de dezembro 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

I think this album is of a great curiosity, at least it is the feedback given for a group of friends since I started showing them a couple of days ago. I think it is also widely unknown for many people, even for fans of Michel Legrand.

Being open and honest, little I know about Michel Legrand and All Music says he is a French composer, arranger, musician that made his fame writing for films, being an occasional Jazz artists, with a significant contribution in the style. Pedro Paulo Castro Neves is Oscar Castro Neves brother, and this album is his debut LP as a singer.
Let’s see.

This is Pedro Paulo Castro Neves & Michel Legrand – Pedro Paulo Castro Neves & Michel Legrand (1985), for Pointer, featuring a repertoire based on Brazilian standards with Michel Legrand, Oscar Castro Neves, Guinga and Egberto Gismonti compositions. Reading liner notes written by Michel Legrand, it is clear he plays the role of Pedro Paulo Castro Neves mentor, making arrangements, playing piano and making a duet with Pedro Paulo, performing nice scats on 05 – Canto de Ossanha – Berimbau by Baden Powell and Vinicius de Moraes. Recorded in Brazil, the session had great musicians, such as Lilian Carmona, Zeca Assumpcao and the legendary Joao Parayba from Trio Mocoto.

Tracks include:

Personnel

Michel Legrand
(piano, keyboards, arrangements, voice)
Joao Parahyba
(percussion)
Lilian Carmona
(drums, percussion)
Zeca Assumpcao
(bass)
Ze Paulo
(violao)
Antenor Granda
(guitar)

Track List

01 – A Felicidade (Antonio Carlos Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 – How do you Keep the Music Playing (Michel Legrand / Alan / M. Bergman)
03 – Morrer de Amor (Oscar Castro Neves / Lucercy Fiorini)
04 – Amour, Amour (Michel Legrand / Jacques Demy)
05 – Canto de Ossanha (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes) – Berimbau (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
06 – His Eyes, Her Eyes (Michel Legrand / Alan / M. Bergman)
07 – Passos e Assovios (Guinga / Paulo Cesar Pinheiro)
08 – The Way she Makes me Feel (Michel Legrand / Alan / M. Bergman)
09 – Auto Retrato (Egberto Gismonti / Geraldo Carneiro)

Michel Legrand is undoubtedly the greatest french composer who’s still alive today. his palmares is outstanding: he signed the famous music for movies “the thomas crown affair”, “les demoiselles de rochefort”, “les parapluies de cherbourg”, “peau d’âne” and countless other absolutely blinding scores, including many musicals. i am extremely surprised (almost shocked!) that he seems not much known in your spheres, as he’s been internationnaly reknown since at least 20 years. his characteristic is to be an all-terrain composer, with an extremely wide range of styles, but he’s adding his own very particular touch every time, that can be identified after a few notes only. he’s also a huge jazz piano player who’ve played with the greatest artists on earth, including miles davis and lalo schifrin. he’s probably the last living giant. thanks for this post.

I’ve always been most curiou about this pairing: how did it come to pass that Pedro Paulo Castro Neves came to making a really late debut album with such a genius of the world of arranging? And what else has P.P. Castro Neves done ?

Manfredo e Seu Conjunto – Bossa Nova Nova Bossa (1963)

.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 18 de dezembro 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

I was really decided to make a classic Samba Jazz album as the last post of the day and I hope my choice will make Loronix friends really pleased. It has been a while since we made available an album by Manfredo Fest, a gifted pianist that released several albums in the style in the 60′s.

Bossa Nova Nova Bossa features Manfredo Fest with a Conjunto, not as a traditional trio, and accompanied by great musicians. This album was first made available with the help of Low Cost Music and now comes back to Loronix as it is no longer commercially available.

Let’s see.

This is Manfredo e Seu Conjunto – Bossa Nova Nova Bossa (1963), for RGE, one of the earliest Manfredo Fest releases featuring a repertoire of Bossa Nova standards performed in Samba Jazz style. In this session Manfredo Fest plays piano, sax and organ, being also in charge of arrangements. Toninho Pinheiro, Hector Costita, Clayber and Os Titulares do Ritmo are Conjunto members, as described on personnel listing.

Zero comments on a Manfredo Fest album. Again I find myself amazed, I have not been able to keep up with loronix for a long time and when I return I see this. Samba Jazz is represented by Manfredo Fest in a very nice way, he is an essential artist, and I would encourage all loronixers to try out his works. I mean, if you’re not completely obsessed only with Choros or the likes

Hello, good evening! Let’s start today showing a tribute album released by Coca Cola company to an artist never approached before at Loronix, which is Maestro Claudio Santoro, a very important musician that influenced renowned Brazilian popular artists, such like Antonio Carlos Jobim and Radames Gnattali.

Claudio Santoro was a very prolific composer, leaving nine symphonies, three piano concertos and seven string quartets. He died in the city of Brasilia on the March 1989, while conducting the rehearsal of an orchestra. This is history and I think Mauro R.V. did not realize this fact. Let’s see.

This is Livio Salles – Livio Salles e Seu Piano | Dance com Livio Salles (1957), for Columbia. Little I know about Livio Salles and according with my searches he recorded only this album for Columbia.

Livio Salles delivers piano renditions of Brazilian songs, backed only by a rhythm section. Thanks Mauro R.V. for this really nice contribution.

Oi Zeca, tudo bem?

Coincidencia.

Hi, Zeca!
This is the text about Musicanossa in English:
“Foi nessa época que Hugo Bellard e o jornalista Armando Henrique fundaram o movimento MUSICANOSSA, convidando os maiores nomes da bossa-nova para fazer parte: Paulo Sérgio Valle, Marcos Valle, Roberto Menescal, Ronaldo Boscoli, Carlinhos Lyra, Antonio Adolfo, Rosinha de Valença, Rildo Hora, Mauricio Einhorn, Don Salvador, Vinicius de Morais, Pingarilho, Marcos Vasconcelos, Oscar Castro Neves, Novelli, Tito Madi, dentre outros.Neste movimento acabaram tendo espaço novos talentos como Egberto Gismonti, Beth Carvalho, Mauricio Duboc, Wagner Tizo, Toninho Horta e muitos outros.

My mobile carrier made a offer to change my phone for another, no charge, they said I could pick the one I like most inside a limit of price. I did not decline the offer and now I’m the happy owner of a big mobile phone with GPS, Bluethoot, Camera, Video and MP3! Really nice, such like an iPod. So I decided to put some Loronix music inside it and my first choice was this album. When I took it for a first hearing, I decided to make another rip. I like this album. Naturally, this new ripping needs to appear at Loronix first page and I hope you appreciate this new version of this fantastic record.
Let’s see.

This is Os Poligonais – Os Poligonais (1964), for RCA Victor. Os Poligonais members are not professional musicians; each one has an occupation, as described at personnel listing. I don’t know if they became professional musicians later or just made this album and the second and last one for Farroupilha Label. Anyway, I’m not a specialist on Jazz, but I think if every Jazz record has this positive and beautiful atmosphere, I will become a Jazz aficionado very soon.

Sivan Castelo Neto – 60 Anos de Musica (1984)

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 10 de dezembro 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

Hello, good evening! Let’s start today with something really unique a tribute album recorded in 1984 in homage for a very important Brazilian popular music artist, which is Sivan Castelo Neto, father of the singer and composer Vera Brasil and the journalist Berto Filho.

In spite of being of a great importance on the development of several different aspects of Brazilian communication and entertainment industry, Sivan Castelo Neto is unknown for many people. He was the first to record jingles in Brazil, being also a gifted musician, recording more than 3,000 jingles at his own recording studio. This album was produced by Berto Filho and Hugo Marotta and had the sponsorship of Petrobras, never being commercially available, a nice surprise sent by the great cvllos, featuring the participation of renowned Brazilian musicians on tracks never released before, such as: Luiz Eça, Tito Madi, Mauricio Einhorn, Helena de Lima, among many others.
Let’s see.

This is Sivan Castelo Neto – 60 Anos de Musica (1984), featuring two records, the first with music composed by Sivan Castelo Neto and performed by a constellation of special guests, and the second (Depoimentos) with Testimonials and jingles by Sivan Castelo Neto, which is very interesting for the friends who understand Portuguese and appreciate old jingles. This album was found by cvllos on a really bad condition and I decided to include the back cover with no image processing.

João Gilberto, Sylvia Telles & Dick Farney – João Gilberto, Silvia Telles & Dick Farney (1988)

This is a very interesting compilation sent by Dona Iara that it is not listed on any discography, at least the ones that I could check. By the way, several compilations were released in the late 80′s and most of them are pretty unknown. I don’t know if it is a matter of limited editions, but they are really worth checking. This LPs were recorded in the turn of the shift between vinyl to CD and they have a pretty good sound. This one is really obscure featuring remastered tunes of three great artists. Let’s see.

This is Joao Gilberto, Sylvia Telles & Dick Farney – Joao Gilberto, Silvia Telles & Dick Farney (1988), for EMI-Odeon, perfect for those who are giving the first steps towards Brazilian music and want to have in a glance Bossa Nova cuts from three legends. These recordings range from 1957 to 1961, as detailed on track list.

Tracks include:

01 – Desafinado – JOAO GILBERTO (1958)
02 – Dindi – SYLVIA TELLES (1959)
03 – Este Seu Olhar – DICK FARNEY (1959)
04 – O Barquinho – JOAO GILBERTO (1961)
05 – A Felicidade – SYLVIA TELLES (1959)
06 – Alguem como Tu – DICK FARNEY (1958)
07 – Insensatez – JOAO GILBERTO (1961)
08 – Se Todos Fossem Iguais a Voce – SYLVIA TELLES (1957)
09 – Corcovado – JOAO GILBERTO (1960)
10 – Copacabana – DICK FARNEY (1958)
11 – Estrada do Sol – SYLVIA TELLES (1958)
12 – Samba de Uma Nota So – JOAO GILBERTO (1960)
13 – Marina – DICK FARNEY (1958)
14 – Eu Sei que Vou te Amar – SYLVIA TELLES (1959)

Nara Leão, Edu Lobo & Tamba Trio – 5 na Bossa (1965)

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 08 de dezembro 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

Here we go with another essential album being reposted at Loronix. It’s unbeliveable this one did not have a repost yet, it was released in June 2006, one of the first albums made available at Loronix. Things have changed since then, the original post had a single file of 32Mb with ten tracks at MP3 format and now a single track on FLAC, 10 – Consolacao, has 42Mb. Each aspect was upgraded, including a better scan of this awesome cover artwork. Let’s see.

This is Nara Leao, Edu Lobo & Tamba Trio – 5 na Bossa (1965), for Philips, a live recording featuring 3 of the most groundbreaking artists of the bossa era. The set was recorded in one of the Bossa Nova temples in the 60′s, Teatro Paramount in Sao Paulo. I think 5 na Bossa brings one of the first Nara Leao live recordings, her voice is lovely as usual, but a little bit constrained in some tracks. She performs alone in four tracks and duets with Edu Lobo on Aleluia, which is the track I like most on this set. Edu Lobo performs on three tracks while Tamba Trio has two instrumental cuts and delivers accompaniment all over the session.

Tracks include:

Personnel

NARA LEAO
EDU LOBO
TAMBA TRIO

Luiz Eca
(piano, vocals)

Bebeto
(bass, flute, vocals)

Ohana
(drums, vocals)

Track List

01 – Carcará (João do Vale / José Cândido) – NARA LEAO
02 – Reza (Edu Lobo / Ruy Guerra) – EDU LOBO
03 – O Trem Atrasou (Vilarinho / Estanislau Silva / Paquito) – NARA LEAO
04 – Zambi (Edu Lobo / Vinicius de Moraes) – EDU LOBO
05 – Consolação (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes) – TAMBA TRIO
06 – Aleluia (Edu Lobo / Ruy Guerra) – NARA LEAO / EDU LOBO
07 – Cicatriz (Zé Keti / Hermínio Bello de Carvalho) – NARA LEAO
08 – Estatuinha (Edu Lobo / Gianfrancesco Guarnieri) – EDU LOBO
09 – Minha História (João do Vale / Raimundo Evangelista) – NARA LEAO
10 – O Morro Não Tem Vez (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes) – TAMBA TRIO
