Os Velhinhos Transviados – O Natal dos Velhinhos Transviados (1966)

.

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 20 de novembro 2007.

Hello, good evening! It happens every year and it is impossible to ignore. Natal, Christmas, Navidad, Noel, Kurisumasu, Natale, no matter how you say in your part of the world, it is coming closer. I have a problem with Christmas albums and their very predictable songs, but once in a while you find something really unique, such like last Christmas when we made really nice albums.

I’m not sure if we can keep last year’s pace, but I want to start great with this one, sent for last Christmas by a friend that I cannot remember right now. Let’s see.

This is Os Velhinhos Transviados – O Natal dos Velhinhos Transviados (1966), for RCA Victor, a compacto duplo (EP), featuring four Christmas tracks and this really nice cover that worth the admission price. It is Christmas, so I’m making it with no Rapidshare.

Tracks include:

01 – Jingle Bells (D. P.)
02 – White Christmas (Irving Berlin)
03 – Boas Festas (Assis Valente)
04 – Noite Silenciosa (Franz Gruber)

Marvelous post, Loro.
I´ve been waiting so long for another Velhinhos Transviado´s album. The art sleeve is hilarious as always. This Christmas gift came a bit early. :-)

Thank you very much!

.
Nostalgia
Boas Festas e um Feliz Ano Novo
.
Incluido o audio do programa Rádio Forma e Elenco

começou a acontecer.

Ademilde Fonseca – A Rainha do Chorinho (1975)

.
.

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 05 de novembro 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

It is truly amazing the feedback given to Ademilde Fonseca on two recently released records. I admit that she was not on my radar and if there is someone who should receive credits for the recent Ademilde Fonseca posts is Elso Legey, he was the first to shout out loud at CBox for an Ademilde Fonseca album. It is hard to believe that Ademilde Fonseca released only a few records on a career that spans decades. This album was recorded in 1975 and follows immediately Choros Famosos (1962), a hiatus of 13 years on recordings. Let’s see.

This is Ademilde Fonseca – A Rainha do Chorinho (1975), for Top Tape, featuring Ademilde Fonseca chorinho standards with some new compositions, including Titulos de Nobreza “Ademilde no Choro” written by Joao Bosco and Aldir Blanc as a gift to Ademilde Fonseca. I think this album is a real find, a breathtaking constellation of Brazilian musicians were in this session, and among many other surprises, I got really amazed with the open tune, Choro Chorao, a choro composition by the Samba legend Martinho da Vila. I think Loronixers will also be amazed with this really nice album, it seems that everybody likes Ademilde Fonseca.

Another sensational release by Ademilde Fonseca, thank you Zeca for the care and dedication you have for our musical requests and thanks for the compliment. I merely reminded you of Ademilde Fonseca well deserved name of the rainha do Chorinho, and reminded you to post her records for all of us to enjoy.
Next request , the earlier Bola Sete records for Odeon-Brazil.

Strangely, I had missed this super lovely voice & session. MPB is just so big that it takes time to find these little gems. I also have this very same session with a different cover simply titled “Ademilde Fonseca” with the same songs of the same year & also on Top Tape.

Conjunto Epoca de Ouro – Conjunto Epoca de Ouro (1975)

.
.

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 27 de outubro 2007.

Last Saturday, I had the tough mission to announce to our community the passing of the Brazilian violao player Cesar Faria. In that time I got really disappointed to make a tribute with no music and this post can be considered a complement for last Saturday tribute. Cesar Faria was founder and member of Conjunto Epoca de Ouro until his passing and I’m now glad to show Loronixers an album by Conjunto Epoca de Ouro and also really amazed by the music they play at this record. If remaining albums by Conjunto Epoca de Ouro are such like this one, we need to track them all. Let’s see.

This is Conjunto Epoca de Ouro – Conjunto Epoca de Ouro (1975), for Continental, featuring Cesar Faria and his Conjunto Epoca de Ouro on 12 renditions of classic Choro compositions by Paulinho da Viola, Jacob do Bandolim, Villa Lobos, Chico Buarque de Hollanda, among many others. A hint is necessary, use speakerphones to identify each instrument, hearing the individual performances of each Conjunto Epoca de Ouro member, it is a very nice experience. Personnel listing is credited bellow, including special guests participations.

Toots Thielemans – The Brasil Project (1992)

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 03 de Julho 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

Toots Thielemans recorded two tribute albums for Brazilian Music, which are called Brasil Project 1 and 2. Caetano already sent to us the second edition, Brasil Project 2, a very nice album, acclaimed by many Loronixers.

I could not wait longer for making Brasil Project 1 as soon arrived. The last track 12 – Bluesette is the main attraction, requested by Beto Kessel, kindly associated by zecalouro as Loronix Ambassador. Beto Kessel is a nice friend, knows everything about Brazilian music and Jazz and I want to dedicate this post to our Ambassador.

This is Toots Thielemans – The Brasil Project (1992), for Private Music, really a project, a great effort matching the harmonica player Toots Thielemans with his Brazilian performer friends, Ivan Lins, Luiz Bonfa, Oscar Castro Neves, Caetano Veloso, Milton Nascimento, among others. It is nice to see photos of a late Luiz Bonfa, available with the music. Bluesette is really the main attraction, a celebration performed by Toots Brazilian friends altogether.

Toots Thielemans – The Brasil Project Vol. 2 (1993)

This is another solid listen provided by one of the most fantastic friends I have the change to meet with Loronix. Let me stand up first before saying this name, Caetano Rodrigues.

Just follow this link and be amazed with loads and loads of rare and impossible to find music provided by Caetano.

It is important and an act of respect that all music provided by Caetano Rodrigues be available to the community, and that’s the reason why this album is being reposted in the first page.

I’m also missing Caetano’s valuable advice; I learned a lot with Caetano. Anyway, this is also an album that everybody cries for a rebirth. That’s what I had to say. I will keep my 2007 words below with some modifications.

Here we go on Caetano’s international release of the day, actually it is quite a mistake of mine to tag a Toots Thielemans album recorded with Brazilian artists as international.

Toots Thielemans has a great identification with the music from Brazil, being here several times of his life, recorded a wonderful album with Elis Regina, performed with several other renowned Brazilian artists, such as Rosinha de Valenca, Sivuca, among others.

This is Toots Thielemans – The Brazil Project Vol. 2 (1993), for Private Music, featuring Toots Thielemans harmonica and Luiz Bonfa, Eliane Elias, Dorival Caymmi, Djavan, Milton Nascimento, Caetano Veloso, among others. Personnel listing explain why this record is considered a “project”. I did not have muscles to type, how big it is. Another self-explanatory release. Thanks Caetano Rodrigues for showing this album to Loronixers.

Hey there, thanks for all of the great music. It is amazing what you have done for my appreciation of Brazilian music. Just to let you know, it appears that the second download is the exact same as the first. That is, part B of this album is not included and the download is actually just part A. Whether you have time to fix it or not, I have so much gratitude for all you have done. Thanks.

parte2 = parte1 Falta a verdadeira parte2 (tracks 07-11)
Ai Zeca, ya me enredé… mas você entendiou ¿sim, verdade? Eu não sei como explicarte meior

The last Festival da Balanca release was nice and useful to remember an important instrumental combom from the 60’s that did not have a single release at Loronix.

Conjunto 3D, is also known as Trio 3D. Conjunto 3-D – Tema 3-D (1964), for RCA is the debut LP, followed by Trio 3-D Convida and Muito na Onda, the last one with Eduardo Conde and Beth Carvalho on vocals.

Antonio Adolfo (piano) is Conjunto 3-D leader, listed on set of all three releases.

Tema 3-D, has Antonio Adolfo (piano and arrangements), Cacho (bass and vocals on tracks 04 and 10), Nelson (drums). Adittionaly Tema 3-D has Arisio (acoustic guitar), Claudio (piston on tracks 02, 04 and 09), Dom Um Romao (drums on tracks 01, 09, 10, 11 and 12).
A perfect cover and always welcomed Bossa Jazz classic for a great day closing.

Trio 3-D - O Trio 3-D Convida (1965)

.
.

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 22 de novembro 2006.
Comentários originais incluídos.

This record is really great, my only problem is the cover with these armed military men, but this is a minor issue. Just to remember, the first Trio 3-D release at Loronix was that one with the guys standing at the keyboard of a giant piano, all black with Trio 3-D on a yellow and very modern typeface. Actually, I'm never 100% happy.

Anyway, it is Trio 3-D, instrumental Bossa Jazz from the 60's with the LP Trio 3-D - O Trio 3-D Convida (1965), for RCA. Trio 3-D at this released is:

Antônio Adolfo (piano)
Carlinhos Monjardin (bass)
Nelsinho (drums).

But what make this LP different are the special guests:
Raul de Barros (trombone)
Ed. Maciel (trombone)
Paulo Moura (sax alto)
Meirelles (Sax tenor).

The arrangements are from Trio 3-D leader, Antonio Adolfo, the exceptions are tracks 7 and 12, arranged by Eumir Deodato.

Tracks include:

01 - Água de Beber (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 - My Heart Stood Still (Lorenz Hart / Richard Rogers)
03 - Preciso Aprender a Ser Só (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
04 - Tamanco no Samba (Orlann Divo / Hélton Menezes)
05 - Reza (Edu Lobo / Ruy Guerra)
06 - Batucada Surgiu (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
07 - Só Tinha de Ser Com Você (Tom Jobim / Aloysio de Oliveira)

Hi,

I think the problem is with Track 01 only. Ouch!
I cannot make a whole new package right now, only tomorrow morning. A replacement for track one is available, may you try it again?
Cheers, zecalouro

NELSINHO (BATERISTA) um show a parte.

I also can’t get the file to unzip — it stalls on track 1.

Excellent! One of the best albums from the golden era of instrumental Bossa Nova! Thank you very much.
Jose Garcia.

Gene Ammons – Bad! Bossa Nova (1962)

.
.

Eugene “Jug” Ammons (saxophonist) was born on April 14, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois and passed away on July 23, 1974 in Chicago, Illinois at the age of 49.

Ammons developed a playing style that was initially inspired by Lester Young. This style alternately featured strong powerful playing punctuated with sharp bursts or “honks” and low, deep notes while playing ballads. Ammons played a rich, soulful music overlaid with an aggressive attack – a style that moved him towards the outer edges of the bop tradition yet never quite slipped over into fully fledged soul or R&B. Ammons enjoyed considerable success thanks in part to his enthusiastic playing and the concurrent popularity of jazz soul music throughout the 60s.

Besides co-leading a two tenor group in the early ’50s with Sonny Stitt, Ammons worked as a single throughout his career, recording frequently in settings ranging from quartets and organ combos to all-star jam sessions. Drug problems kept him in prison during much of 1958-1960 and, due to a particularly stiff sentence, 1962-1969.

When Ammons returned to the scene in 1969, he opened up his style a bit, including some of the emotional cries of the avant-garde while utilizing funky rhythm sections, but he was still able to battle Sonny Stitt on his own terms. Ironically, the last song that he ever recorded (just a short time before he was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 1974) was “Goodbye.”

Joni James - Bossa Nova Style (1965)

Here we go again with another release sponsored by Caetano Rodrigues, The Great. Caetano presents this time a female singer and I'm very confident that this post will be a treat for many Loronixers. It was a surprise to see the tremendous feedback given to Pat Thomas and I hope that Joni James hits the same honors gave by Loronixers to Pat Thomas. Let's check another Caetano's gem.

This is Joni James - Bossa Nova Style (1965), for MGM. Hearing Joni James, I sure that you will remember the anthological Julie is her Name, by Julie London. Joni James seems to be from the same school and her interpretation of Bossa Nova is really different. I like Joni James singing and this is a very pleasant LP. Thanks for this one Caetano.

Tracks include:

01 - Dindi
02 - I Could Have Danced All Night
03 - September Song
04 - My Foolish Heart
05 - I Wish You Love
06 - While We're Young
07 - I Understand
08 - The Girl from Ipanema
09 - Guilty
10 - Once I Loved
11 - My Romance
12 - You're Nearer

Really nice album- It is wonderful that Caetano shows us a mix of brazilian music recorderd in Brazil itself and albums recorderd outside of Brazil.
You learn every day new things.

Very classy. I really appreciate your presentation of international bossa nova releases. I find an outsider's perspective on the genre fascinating, illuminating and, even sometimes, amusing. But always entertaining, never boring. Keep up the great work!
PS I would like to share my Isabelle Aubret, Helen Merrill, Morricone, Gimmicks etc files in the future.

Friends,
I'm happy that you were thrilled by Joni James. Each new international release from Caetano is also a treat to me. The challenge is to write info from artists and music that I'm not used.
Cheers, zeca

Zecalouro:

Nick Ayoub - Bossa Nova Jazz Samba (1962)

.
.
Incluida: Canadian Bossa Nova

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 29 de maio 2007.

It was really a treat listening this album and also a little bit confusing. The main performer is Nick Ayoub, but at a first sight, it seems we have a record made by a duo, Rosita and Deno. The story is delicious and is all about a promotion, everyone who bought this album could take the back cover to one of Rosita and Deno dancing schools and claim 2 free Bossa Nova lessons. Fascinating. Buy the album, hear the music and get 2 free dancing classes with Rosita & Deno.

This is Nick Ayoub - Bossa Nova Jazz Samba (1962), for Trans Canada Music Company, a wonderful instrumental album featuring Niki Ayoube and his orchestra. Personnel is not credited but we have top-notch musicians at this set. The repertoire is also unusual with music that seems to be composed only for this album. I never danced in my life and if I were in Canada by that time, the story of my life could be different with Nick Ayoube and Rosita & Deno, only Caetano to bring such wonderful discoveries to Loronix.

Tracks include:

01 - Canadian Bossa Nova
02 - Prelude to Bossa Nova
03 - Nick's Nova
04 - Gella Nova
05 - New One
06 - Aureles
07 - Bossa Me
08 - Bossa Nova Orientale
09 - Bossa Sway
10 - Jazz me In
11 - Bossa Nova Nr. 12
12 - Samba Basque

Pocho e Seu Conjunto - Dancando Com Sucessos (1960)

.
.
Incluida: Presidente Bossa Nova

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 27 de maio 2007.

It is great to show another album from this artist, mainly by the circumstances this record was found, lost in the street, not exactly lost, but abandoned in the middle of CDs sold by a guy in the street. I got it on a really bad shape and now it is really a pleasure to bring it back to life and show to Loronix friends. I'm including with the package the back cover with no restoration just to give you the idea if how badly it was. In the other hand, the vinyl performed very well and the music is truly great.

This is Pocho e Seu Conjunto - Dancando Com Sucessos (1960), for RGE. Pocho (Rubens Perez), is an Uruguayan Maestro that established himself in Brazil in the late 50's, releasing several albums and participating as arranger and director of works from several renowned Brazilian musicians and singers. Pocho is one of Caetano favorites and his music is not easily found at old vinyl shops. The last Pocho album I could track was released in 1970 and no further information of his artistic career was found when I searched for info.

Tracks include:

01 - Marina (R. Granata)
02 - Mira Que Luna (Elgos / Malgoni)
03 - Carinho e Amor (Tito Madi)
04 - Presidente Bossa Nova (Juca Chaves)
05 - Tintarella Di Luna (Banho de Lua) (B. de Fillippi / Migliacci)
06 - Me Leva (José Garcia / Anísio Silva / Silas de Oliveira)
07 - Menina Moça (Luis Antônio)
08 - Romântica (R. Rascel / D. Verde)
09 - El Vagabundo (V. Simon)
10 - Marcianita (J. I. Marcone / G. V. Alderete)
